I mean, an alternative endpoint discovery mechanism — if WebFinger is not available, just fetch the URL and look up links with the remotestorage rel in the Link HTTP header and HTML body, the same way Micropub and Webmention endpoints are discovered.

Not sure if this comment makes it back to your site (I'm using the form on the page now), but anyway:

I think I understand now. Instead of supplying a user address for the connect, you'd want to be able to supply a URL instead and then collect the discovery information via HTTP or HTML, right?
