I've been trying for more than a month to get a Twitter developer account, in order to create a new OAuth app for Data Transfer Project's software. Replies take weeks, and I still don't have access. So I must assume that https://datatransferproject.dev is just show.

Changing your GitHub username: how painful is it on a scale from 1 to 10? (Account is from 2008, almost daily activity in many different repos and projects.)

'Calling this new Gmail mode “confidential” is misleading. There is nothing confidential about unencrypted email in general and about Gmail’s new “Confidential Mode” in particular': https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/07/between-you-me-and-google-problems-gmails-confidential-mode

It seems to me like almost everyone claiming that GPG email is totally unsafe crap is not actually using it much. Or even at all for day-to-day communications.

Apparently there's a rather critical security flaw in how automatic decryption of PGP and S/MIME emails works, and EFF just recommended nobody send or read PGP email anymore until it's fixed: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/05/attention-pgp-users-new-vulnerabilities-require-you-take-actio...

Someone just pointed me to https://delta.chat/en/features, and I'm sitting here wondering how on Earth there wouldn't be any metadata collected, when your messenger is based entirely on email. Am I missing something?

Hey Mozilla, how about you switch your employees' email, calendars, chats, and whatever else from Google and other proprietary, privacy-invading services to self-hosted OSS products first, and *then* send me emails asking me to sign some anti-Facebook petition?

Not sure if some joker at TUIfly is playing a prank or not:

"You are expected at the check-in desk 120 minutes before departure at the latest (180 minutes for long distance flights). You should take into account the fact that your booking may be cancelled and you may be refused access to the aeroplane, without reimbursement of the price of your flight, if you fail to check in on time."

Glad to see Thunderbird (my email client of choice) is alive and well: https://blog.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2017/12/new-thunderbird-releases-and-new-thunderbird-staff/

If you're using multiple accounts with web apps, check out Multi-Account Containers for FF (pulled out of Nightly): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/

People sharing a hack for being able to post 280 chars to their social media account looks so absurd to people on the Fediverse right now.

Finally changed the background and colors on my personal site, and added a link to my Fediverse account. Airy blue ok? https://sebastian.kip.pe/

Anyone has experience with or opinions on Autocrypt for email? https://autocrypt.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

I tooted about how you can cross-post your tweets to a Mastodon account using nothing but IFTTT: https://kosmos.social/@raucao/3377

My aunt just sent an email to my generation of the family, asking us to tell her when we update email addresses, because f*** FB and WhatsApp. Go aunty!

@rektide I wrote a friendly comment on his original blog post asking for something like RS a couple years back. I explained how remoteStorage fits all the requirements he put in the post. Unfortunately he flagged my comment as spam without responding. I then wrote a second comment explaining that it wasn't spam, pointing him to more resources about it, and asking for feedback in case it was irrelevant or missing something he needed. Also flagged as spam and deleted without comment.

Best thing is, when I just wanted to look up the original tweet, I noticed that my Twitter account is even blocked by him. I used that account for my comments via Disqus on the post.

Very sad. I hope other people get through, because it would be very valuable feedback for the RS core team, and remoteStorage.js will actually launch Dropbox and Google Drive support in addition to remoteStorage accounts this or next month.

I feel very much the same about wanting to kill email (plus the protocol benefit tho): https://glyph.twistedmatrix.com/2016/04/email-isnt-the-problem.html

Wow, since when does Spotify support remote-controlling other devices logged in with the same account?

That time when you and another person simultaneously work on an app that syncs, both using the same test account, wondering wtf is going on.

That is: 56 EUR less on my account than before, after the banks doing their thing without any unlawful activity involved. Good job, finance!
