Changing your GitHub username: how painful is it on a scale from 1 to 10? (Account is from 2008, almost daily activity in many different repos and projects.)

Adding a German word list for standardized Bitcoin HD passphrases is more difficult than you'd think: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/pull/721

Apparently Baidu engineers have solved simultaneous translation from Chinese audio to English text: https://simultrans-demo.github.io/

Interesting thoughts about Slack (or any group chat for that matter) as a group mind, comparing it to brain functions, and explaining how it's more like a herd mind than a hive mind: https://abe-winter.github.io/2018/07/31/group-mind.html

Bad news for all CI companies out there: Google and GitHub just partnered up for fully integrated and automated CI, and they'll shove it in everyone's face soon: "Smart CI recommendations will be rolled out to all GitHub users on a phased basis." https://cloudplatform.googleblog.com/2018/07/go-fast-safely-and-easily-with-cloud-build-and-github.h...

Promising: there are currently 72 open PRs for Gitea, incl. one for code reviews, which is already marked for the 1.5 version milestone: https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/3748

Why on Earth are both Gogs and Gitea being developed on GitHub?!

At least it's easy to create org-wide issue labels, as opposed to GitHub.

If we want to move our free software from GitHub to self-hosted GitLab instances, we're going to need federated merge requests, and ideally also reviews, comments, etc.. This is possible with ActivityPub now. If you want this to happen, you could upvote https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/4013

Always remember that a normal VC exit time is only 7-10 years. Then it's either IPO, or selling the company and its users. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-03/microsoft-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-acquire-codin...

If you also happen to write Ember.js apps in Vim, I just stumbled upon this gem of a plugin: https://sukima.github.io/vim-ember-imports/

If you'd like to see location tagging in Mastodon (e.g. I'd love to have it for my photo posts), plz give this issue a thumbs-up: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/281

Anyone knows if it's possible to hide or change the "owner" etc. labels shown next to users' names in GitHub comment headers? I think it sends the wrong message when an org owner is shown as repo owner of a repo that is actually owned/managed by a community member.

GitHub wants you to: "Write to EU policymakers [...] and ask them to exclude “software repositories” from Article 13." https://blog.github.com/2018-03-14-eu-proposal-upload-filters-code/

How about protesting all upload filters, period? You don't care about freedom and privacy, you only care about your bottom line here.

Good news for pair programming: GitHub now supports adding co-authors to Git commits. https://blog.github.com/2018-01-29-commit-together-with-co-authors/ 👏

Step 1: Create integration between two proprietary, closed-source platforms.
Step 2: Advertise "Open source, open platform" as a major benefit of your new integration.

So, what's the best OSS-based video sharing site for publishing a 2-minute 1080p thing? PeerTube looks amazing already, but there don't seem to be any sites with registration open atm. https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube
